Natasha wins ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year’

Posted on 06/01/2022 by Anna Murphy

We are unbelievably proud to share the news that Natasha Knowles has been crowned ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year’ at the Nottinghamshire Live Women In Business Awards 2021.

Natasha is Project Delivery Team Lead here at Hallam and has perfectly demonstrated both personally and professionally what it means to be a courageous and admirable person. Personal experience led her to create our miscarriage policy which provides support such as compassionate leave, paid leave for any associated medical appointments (including fertility treatment), a phased return to work and access to our Mental Health First Aiders.

The Nottinghamshire Live Women in Business Awards were due to take part in December 2021, but were sadly cancelled due to concerns surrounding the rise in Covid-19 cases, with the awards instead moving online.

The judges from Nottinghamshire Live said: “Recently promoted, Natasha has since demonstrated both personally and professionally what it means to be a courageous, admirable and inspirational person. After suffering a miscarriage in 2021, she created the company’s miscarriage policy.

“Not only bravely launching the policy in-house, she is taking the cause even further to campaign for country-wide changes to the law regarding paid compassionate leave. Natasha’s inspiring work has encouraged other businesses to implement their own policies, as well as signing the Miscarriage Association’s Pregnancy Loss Pledge. In addition, Natasha trained to become a mental health first aider to support those around her.”

Natasha said: “I am so extremely grateful to have been recognised for the work that’s been done over the last year and I could not have done it without the support of everyone at Hallam – genuinely, it takes a village to do this kind of work.

“More than anything, awards like this highlight the level of recognition this topic needs; it shows how more people than we know care about change towards supporting those who go through a miscarriage, both in terms of employment rights and cultural perception towards talking about it. It all helps to keep this incredibly important conversation going and to show how basic rights are needed: it demands that we take action to influence that change. I hope that it will help to raise more awareness around the challenges at hand so that change can eventually happen for the better. The other nominees have done some wonderful work themselves and it’s an honour to be shortlisted alongside them.”

She is now taking the cause even further to campaign for country-wide changes to the law regarding paid compassionate leave for people who experience a miscarriage. Natasha’s inspiring work has encouraged other businesses to implement policies, as well as adding their names to the Miscarriage Association’s Pregnancy Loss Pledge.

Jake, our MD, said: “Huge congratulations to Natasha. Alongside the amazing work she does every day for Hallam, Natasha has been campaigning on a national level for paid compassionate leave for women and their partners who have suffered a miscarriage. We are lucky to have you!”
